Where the heart is…

We’re back.

Home.

If home really is where the heart is, then I’m not sure I’m home.

I don’t know if it’s Tassie’s cooler temperatures,

[A shock to the system when coming from consecutive 40 degree days]

[Snowflake and I enjoying the cooler weather]

the beautiful scenery,

[Taken from the top of Mt Victoria, North East Tasmania]

[The view from Ronny's Creek, Cradle Mountain, Tasmania]

the fresh air,

[There's something about sea air]

[Fresh and pure mountain air...]

the abundance of fresh food

[Our veggie haul in just a few hours]

or just the fact that all my side of the family is there,

[Snowflake with her Great-Grandparents. We didn't think she'd get to meet her Great-Grandad!]

[Getting to know one of her Great-Great Aunts]

[Bonding with her youngest cousin (and Grandmum, who's holding them)]

but every time I visit Tassie I leave a little more of my heart behind.

It’s almost been ten years since I left.

I guess, for now, home is where the husband is. And child. I’d be lost without them.

I am lucky though. I might not have any of my family here in WA (now that ESD has moved back to Tas), but I do have my in-laws (IL’s), and my three best friends. Well… Only two are here at the moment, but one is making the trek across the Nullarbor with her new husband in two weeks. She’ll be here for at least a year so it means I’ll have my three BFF’s – my three bridesmaids – in the same state as me. That’s gotta count for something right?

And my IL’s? Well, they really are the best IL’s someone could ask for. They support us all in whatever we want to do. We have dinner there every Sunday night and they’re always there if we need…well…anything really. Hell…They even bought us the house we live in. And they’re infatuated with Snowflake. What grandparent isn’t infatuated with their first grandchild?

Anyway, to keep my mind occupied so I don’t pine for my family in Tassie too much I’ve set myself some goals.

  • Lose weight
  • Blog more
  • Make my blog more interesting.
  • Increase blog readership and Facebook likes
  • Get the garden in shape
  • Get the house in shape

These are pretty big goals. You might have read about the weight I need to lose in Delusional: My Ass. It’s a significant number. It always has been. And the blogging stuff? Well they go hand-in-hand really.

To help myself get there I’m going to break them down into smaller goals and post them on here. Just not right now. Right now I’m busy preparing for…well…working on my goals.

I need to learn how to prioritise my time better. They don’t call me the ‘Queen of Procrastination’ for nothing.

Actually ‘they’ don’t. I do. I’ve always been good at it. See? I’m doing it right now. Instead of figuring how to end this little post, I’m prattling on.

Procrastinating.

So…I’m off to work on my goals. Luckily there’s a lot to work on so I don’t think about Tassie. And that lovely new semi-rural land development just out of Launceston I’m trying to convince Mr.SuggieBlue to buy…

Wordless Wednesday: The answer to the riddle (with just a few words).

So on Monday I posted about my crazily busy couple of months and left you with a riddle. Here it is again:

What happens when you put a strapless mini-dress and high-heels on a 34wk pregnant lady?

I should also add ‘and a wedding’ to the end of the riddle.

So. Just what do you get when you put a strapless mini-dress and high-heels on a 34wk pregnant lady at a wedding?

The answer is this:

Image Detail

Ok, so these aren’t my feet. I wasn’t really in the state of mind to be taking photos of my feet by the end of the day. But they looked similar to this – including the nail polish - just with red lines from the shoes across the toes and top of the foot.

There is another answer to the riddle though. It’s a little more pretty. Just a little…

Mr.SuggieBlue & I waiting (someone thoughtful was getting me a chair).

The good thing is I got to have my hair and make-up done AND you can only just see Miss Snowflake’s bump. The bad news is my legs look huge (that’s normal for me anyway)! Oh well. The things you do for your best friends!

I’m linking up with Trish from My Little Drummer Boys for Wordless Wednesday. Head over to her page to see what other Wordless Wednesday delights are around. You won’t be disappointed!

Weddings, babies & everything…

It’s been a busy few weeks for me – especially since I didn’t really have anything planned for my three week holiday. Visit some friends, some family members and just generically soak up my last opportunity to really relax before mine & Mr.SuggieBlue’s lives forever changes.

Yesterday was the two week mark of my holiday. I have one week left. We were planning a trip to Hobart which would incorporate a visit to dad’s brother and dad’s birthday. I think mum and I have decided that we might be best to relinquish those plans and concentrate more on our own area – Launceston. In hindsight, I should have known I’d try to cram too much stuff into this trip. Really it’s been all about weddings, babies and funeral arrangements. Grandad really isn’t well. He’s had a nasty chest infection, he’s had some (possible) cancerous lumps taken off his ear and he thinks his heart is giving up on him. It sounds bad – and it is – but in the past 9 years, Grandad has been through two bouts of chemotherapy to treat Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, he’s had chronic lung problems (a result of a lifetime of farming) and has been on oxygen for the past six or so years and he has a constant battle with swelling (particularly of his feet) as a result from all his medications and a weakening heart which can’t cope with everything. All this in the past nine years, and yet I’ve been able to hug him every time I’ve had holidays from Perth, so far. I’ve been blessed for that reason alone. To have him alive and looking so well at my wedding was by far one of the biggest blessings – although for selfish reasons. Now I’d love him to meet Snowflake, and my cousin’s baby who is due one month before Snowflake (late November). These two newest additions will make 13 great-grandchildren so far for him and Grandma. Not bad for 61 years of marriage. I really would love for him to make it to Easter, so he can see his eldest granddaughter (Eldest Sister Dear (ESD)) marry as well, but I know he recently told Grandma to start making arrangements for another event of the sadder kind. I guess only time will tell which comes first.

Between now and Easter, I’m attending four weddings (hopefully no funeral among them). Of those four wedding’s I’m bridesmaid in three. The first is in November, where I’ll be 34 weeks pregnant – and yes! I’m a bridesmaid in that one. My best friend since year seven is getting married in March and ESD (who lives in NW Western WA), is 3 weeks later in April. Both weddings will be in Tassie, which means Snowflake and I will have a month long stay here while Mr.SuggieBlue goes back home for two weeks in order to support his family. The March wedding seems to be pretty-much organised – for the most part. They only got engaged in June but my friend has been very pro-active and has everything ready – down the invites and table centre pieces. Basically, the invites just need to be posted and the tables need to be set. She’s even organised our bridesmaid dresses (I’ll take mine back to Perth with me next week) and her hens day (which I won’t be able to attend). I feel bad that I really haven’t been able to help her out with anything. But, as she pointed out to me, it was much the same when I was organising mine. Every time we’d talk, I’d organised this and that. I guess it’s the price you pay when you live in different states. I still feel bad though.

ESD is a much different story. Mum and I had told her we’d do some scoping out while I’m here. She’s booked the reception and ceremony location, the celebrant (same one as me) and the photographer, but (like me) she’s never set foot on the venue where the wedding will be held. Mum and I said we’d visit it while I was over, but we’re severely lacking on days where we might be able to do this. If we take Hobart out of the equation it gives us an extra three days to do what we need to do – like look at places that do flowers, cakes etc. Hopefully it will be enough time for us.

I do have to make a trip to Bicheno to visit my friend’s sister for preparation for the November wedding. I’m in charge of making a slideshow of pictures for her hen’s day/night. Mum and I thought we could make it into a nice day trip; and since the sister and her hubby own a little Cafe/Wine Bar/Deli, we thought we could enjoy lunch there too.

Of course the main reason I came over here was as a last opportunity to visit my friends and family alone before Miss Snowflake arrives and changes my definition of ‘alone’ forever. I would have loved it if Mr.SuggieBlue came along as well, but it is nice to have some time to myself. They say the second trimester is the best time to take a holiday, so I’ve jumped at the chance. My last visit here was for a certain wedding last year – almost one year ago – and while I’ve been lucky enough to see mum quite a bit this year, and have a visit from my sister (Mrs.S) and her family, there’s still one more sister (Ms.M) I hadn’t seen, plus my dad, my grandparents, my beloved Great Aunt (who had a stroke just before the wedding and wasn’t able to attend) and of course my beautiful friends – who are now planning their own weddings.

So this trip really had been about weddings, babies and everything.

Right now, I’m sitting here alone (the common definition of ‘by one’s self’) in Mum’s kitchen; the sun is out and warming my back (and creating an annoying glare on the computer screen). I’m enjoying the chirping of the birds in her garden and watching the cows (who are about to calf) in the yard right out the front of the window. It’s a slight change from my view the other day, where I was looking out the window of the shack straight out onto the beach. For those of you who follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, you may have seen my pictures, but I’ve added them here as well, just so you can see how North East Tassie really is a little slice of heaven; one of which I can’t wait to share with my little Miss Snowflake as she grows up.

Im looking forward to…

The next six weeks are pretty busy for me, and I’m looking forward to what’s in store. Here’s an idea of what’s on the cards:

Ø  Family lunch with the in-laws next Sunday to celebrate FIL’s birthday.

Ø  My massage next week. It’s been waaaaay too long since I last had one and I have the biggest knots in my shoulders!

Ø  My visitors who arrive in 9 days – my mum, eldest sister and two nieces. Not looking forward to the chaos in the house though!

Ø  Finding out the sex of ‘Snowflake’ in 14 days.

Ø  Feeling more wriggles from ‘Snowflake’ – although I’m sure I’ll be cursing the wriggles before too long.

Ø  Catching up with my friend Shelley which will include: Cuddling her baby girl Reagan, discussing her wedding plans for November, my pregnancy and all other sorts of girly & non-girly stuff we usually talk about. Again. It’s been waaay too long.

Ø  The departure of my visitors. Let’s face it, after three weeks I’m sure we’ll all be ready for a bit of space.

Ø   The overnight stay at Hidden Valley Retreat for my birthday. Can’t wait for the pamper package I’m just not sure which one to choose! Any suggestions?

Ø  My visit to Tassie. Naturally, Mum will be there, so it would have only been three weeks since I saw her, but I’ll get to see the rest of the family and friends.

Ø  Hanging out with my best bud Lu-Lu while I’m in Tassie & helping her with her wedding plans. = and finally getting to do some MOH duties. Her wedding’s in March.

Ø  Catching up with another friend Jo, who I definitely don’t contact enough and haven’t had a chance to chat to her about her engagement (announced in March) and wedding plans or my pregnancy. In-fact – I might work on that as soon as I post this!

Ø  Taking lots and lots of photos in Tas – my favourite place for photography. Keep an eye out for my photography challenge. I’ll try to start it at the beginning of September.

What are you looking forward to in the next six weeks?

Candice
